Lagos Police Enhance Training to Combat Crypto Crimes

The Police Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi, Lagos, organized a training program aimed at enhancing the skills of detectives to effectively tackle cryptocurrency-related crimes. The training took place from Friday to Sunday and was conducted in collaboration with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service and the Criminal Investigation Support Unit.

Eloho Okpoziakpo, the officer in charge of the unit, stated that the initiative is designed to strengthen the unit's capacity to address emerging financial crimes, aligning with the vision of Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu. The program focuses on developing intelligence-led, proactive, and technology-driven policing strategies to combat the rise of cyber-enabled financial crimes associated with digital currencies.

Okpoziakpo emphasized the importance of exposing the structural usage of regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies to enhance effective investigation and prosecution of related offenses. The Police Special Fraud Unit is responsible for investigating complex financial crimes, including cyber-related offenses.
