TCN Declares Force Majeure After Offa Transmission Robbery

On May 7, 2026, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declared "Force Majeure" at the Offa 132kV Transmission Station due to a robbery incident. Armed men invaded the facility, gaining access to the control room and holding personnel hostage at gunpoint.

The attackers demanded a total shutdown of the station during the incident, tampering with control switches and relays. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, reported that the 40MVA transformer was opened, and operations were disrupted.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 PM. TCN managed to restore operations to the Offa 33kV feeder at 1:07 PM and the Ojoku 33kV feeder at 1:14 PM.

TCN expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to transmitting bulk electricity efficiently to distribution companies across the country.
