NigComSat Enhances Nigeria's Satellite Infrastructure

Since Jane Nkechi Egerton became the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) in 2023, the organization has focused on enhancing Nigeria's satellite infrastructure as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's digital infrastructure agenda. NigComSat's broadcasting capacity has increased significantly, with the number of television channels on its platform growing from 45 to 150, reaching an audience of seven million Nigerians.

The organization has recognized the strategic importance of satellite infrastructure for nationwide coverage and has partnered with the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to support the digital switch-over program. Additionally, NigComSat is launching a program in 2024 to assist Nigerian entrepreneurs in leveraging satellite technology for various sectors, including healthcare and education.

The initiative aims to foster innovation and support startups, with a goal of training 500 young Nigerians in satellite technology across several states.
