Senate Supports FRSC Modernization and NIPSS Funding

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate expressed its support for the modernization of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and emphasized the need for continued training and capacity building to enhance road safety programs. The Senate's Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, chaired by Allwell Onyesoh, reviewed the FRSC's 2025 budget and considered its 2026 budget proposal.

The FRSC's proposed total expenditure for 2026 is ₦129 billion, which includes personnel costs of ₦99,737,554,653, overhead costs of ₦26,964,914,587, and capital expenditure of ₦2,425,987,544. The committee also highlighted the importance of regular training and retraining programs for FRSC personnel to meet global standards.

Additionally, the Senate urged improved funding for the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), which proposed a total budget of ₦4,016,023,688 for the 2026 fiscal year. The committee's discussions included the need for the NIPSS to accommodate younger applicants to enhance policy knowledge and leadership capacity.
