Senate Declares Jimoh Ibrahim's Seat Vacant, INEC to Act

The Nigerian Senate has officially declared the seat of Jimoh Ibrahim from the Ondo South Senatorial District vacant. This decision was made during a plenary session presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Senate has instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize fresh elections to fill the vacant seat within 30 days. In addition to this significant political development, the Senate also passed three major agricultural bills aimed at enhancing food security in Nigeria.

These include the establishment of the Nigeria Food Reserve Agency, the National Cassava Policy Coordinating Council Bill, and the National Rice Development Council Nigeria Establishment Bill, all set for 2026. Furthermore, the Senate passed a bill seeking to repeal the Nigeria Police Trust Fund Establishment Act of 2019 and enact the Nigeria Police Trust Fund Act of 2026, which is designed to provide modern equipment, enhance training, and improve the welfare of the Nigeria Police Force.
