Vice President Shettima Mourns Bamanga Tukur's Passing

On Sunday, Vice President Kashim Shettima issued a condolence message regarding the death of Bamanga Tukur, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 90. Shettima described Tukur's demise as a monumental loss not only to Adamawa and the Fombina Emirate but also to Nigeria and Africa.

He referred to Tukur as a "true patriot" and an "institution" in Nigeria, noting that he was a significant figure in building Nigeria's maritime infrastructure. Tukur served as the General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) from 1975 to 1982, during which he cleared port congestion and developed the Tin Can Island Port Complex.

Shettima also highlighted Tukur's political career, mentioning his vision for rural development and education during his tenure as governor of the old Gongola State, which was cut short by a military intervention in December 1983. Shettima extended his condolences to Tukur's family and the people of Adamawa, assuring them that Nigeria would remember Tukur's contributions.
