Sokoto Diocese Denies Viral Video of Burning Cathedral

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto issued a statement denying the authenticity of a viral video that purportedly showed the burning of a cathedral and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah's residence. The statement, signed by Rev. Fr. Pascal Salifu, the Director of Communications, described the report as false and misleading, emphasizing that the facilities remain intact and fully operational.

This clarification comes in the wake of unrest following the brutal murder of Deborah Yakubu, which has caused societal turmoil. The diocese commended security agencies for their prompt response to the situation and expressed gratitude towards the military and state security agencies for their immediate action as the video circulated.

The statement urged the public to remain calm and peaceful, especially during the Easter season, and extended warm greetings and goodwill to the faithful.
