N1bn Gudu School Project in Sokoto Remains Closed

The N1 billion school project in Gudu, Sokoto, completed in 2017 during the administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuw, has been closed for nine years. The school was intended to address educational challenges in border communities, where families struggle to enroll children in secondary education, often forcing them to travel to distant towns.

Despite the government's efforts, Gudu remains one of the lowest-performing areas in education in Sokoto State. The school, designed to accommodate students from neighboring communities and offer instruction in English and French, has yet to admit any students.

Security personnel currently occupy the facility due to ongoing insecurity in the area. Local residents, including Mallam Umar Ball, have expressed the need for the school to reopen, emphasizing that it should not be converted into a military base.

They appeal to the government to restore the school to its original purpose to benefit local children and improve educational outcomes.
