Soldiers Deployed to Calm Clashes in Cross River Communities

Soldiers from the Nigerian Army, specifically the 13 Brigade Calabar, have taken control of Boje and Isobendighe communities in Boki Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State due to severe communal clashes that re-emerged approximately two weeks ago. The clashes have significantly impacted lives, properties, and agricultural lands in the region.

Eti-Eka Beatrice Nyiam, the Chairman of the LGA, confirmed the deployment of both soldiers and police to the affected communities. Major Yemi Sokoya, the information officer, stated that while the soldiers' presence is temporary, their duration will depend on the situation's resolution.

The state police command, represented by ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, has also increased security measures to alleviate the renewed tensions and is engaging with stakeholders to promote peace. The police command reported that the area is currently relatively calm and urged residents to remain composed and avoid actions that could escalate the conflict.
