NPF Restructures Command for Enhanced Policing Efficiency

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) is undergoing a strategic restoration of its operational architecture, led by Inspector General Tunji Disu. This initiative aims to address long-standing structural crises within the NPF, which has suffered from fragmentation and overlapping tactics among various units.

Disu's recent decision to disband ineffective structures is intended to streamline operations into five tactical commands, enhancing oversight and restoring foundational principles of policing. The restructuring will limit area command to two tactical teams, empowering them to act decisively and reducing misconduct.

The initiative also includes the introduction of body cameras to ensure compliance with human rights standards. Disu emphasizes that a disorganized police force cannot effectively secure the nation, and this restructuring aims to return the NPF to its original design, focusing on discipline and specialized training in areas such as cyber intelligence and counter-terrorism.
