South East Regional Security Summit Held in Umuahia

The maiden South East Regional Security Summit was held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State, organized by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South East). The summit aimed to address the security issues in the South East region, with the theme “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Regional Security and Stability.” General Ike Nwachukwu emphasized that security encompasses justice, trust, opportunity, and legitimate authority, stating that the greatest intelligence asset is citizens who believe in government protection.

Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, was the only state governor present, while others sent representatives.

The summit concluded with a call for a “Whole of Society Approach” to achieve sustainable peace and prosperity in the region, highlighting the importance of local solutions to security challenges.
