Nigerian Celebrities Enlist in U.S. Military for Citizenship

In a growing trend, Nigerian celebrities are enlisting in the U.S. military, with notable figures like Dele Momodu and Princess Chinek making the transition. Dele Momodu completed basic combat training with the U.S.

Army in April 2026, becoming the first known male Nollywood actor to enlist. His decision was influenced by his late father's service in the Nigerian police force, which he described as a tribute to his legacy.

Princess Chinek enlisted in December 2024, announcing her commitment to serve her chosen country via social media. Mayowa Dosu also made a similar transition around the same time as Chinek, although she shared fewer details publicly.

Belinda Effah and Grace Chari Bassei joined the U.S. Navy in May 2025 and received American citizenship upon completing boot camp.

Effah, who has won an Africa Movie Academy Award, expressed a deep personal connection to her decision, linking it to her late father's service in the naval command. The benefits of military service extend beyond salary, including significant personal growth and citizenship.
