Borno Police Arrest Five Youths for Thuggery, Not T-Shirt Message

The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested five youths on September 25, 2026, during a routine patrol in Maiduguri. The suspects, identified as Baba Aji Gremami, Mustapha Abba Yemen, Abacha Mohammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio, and Abdulhamid Mohammed, were charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace, and thuggery.

Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso stated that the arrests were not due to the "Tinubu Must Go" message on their T-shirts but rather their alleged involvement in thuggery and possession of illicit drugs, including 15 wraps of suspected Indian hemp and 100 tablets suspected to be D5. The police recovered two T-shirts with the inscription and other items at the scene.

The suspects were arraigned in court, with their bail application set for ruling on October 6, 2026, and the substantive case scheduled for October 26, 2026. The police emphasized their commitment to professionalism and protecting human rights.
