Trump Administration to Revoke 200,000 Asylum Visas

The administration of United States President Donald Trump announced plans to revoke the non-immigrant visas of foreigners who have applied for or are currently seeking asylum, potentially affecting up to 200,000 holders of business and tourism visas. This proposal, revealed by the US State Department, is part of a comprehensive immigration enforcement strategy.

A State Department spokesperson indicated that they are collaborating with the Department of Homeland Security to identify and revoke B1 and B2 visas held by individuals who have claimed to be short-term visitors but have filed for asylum. Although the exact number of visas to be revoked was not disclosed, reports suggest that these visas were issued between 2016 and 2026.

The revocations would not lead to immediate deportation, but individuals with pending asylum cases would lose their status as business or tourism visitors. Earlier, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau criticized the immigration system for being overwhelmed by frivolous asylum claims.

The Trump administration has intensified immigration enforcement, including visa revocations and deportations, claiming these measures are necessary for strengthening domestic security.
