Two Dead as Car Plunges into Oyo River

On Friday night, May 29, 2026, a tragic incident occurred in Oyo State when a Toyota Avensis, with an unknown registration number, lost control and veered off the road into the Ariyo River, located along Amuloko in the Ona Ara Local Government Area. The Oyo State Fire Service, led by Chairman Maroof Akinwand, confirmed that they received a distress call at exactly 21:40 hours regarding the road traffic accident.

Fire officers, including ACF Amoo, were promptly deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they confirmed that the vehicle had swerved off the road and was submerged in the river.

The rescue team immediately commenced operations, successfully retrieving two casualties from the submerged vehicle. The victims were later handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan Ogber, for further investigation.

Akinwand stated that the fire service responded promptly and completed the recovery operation in line with standard procedures.
