Two Sentenced to Death for DELSU Student's Murder

A Delta State High Court in Ogwashi-Uku sentenced two men, Macaulay Desmond Oghenemaro and Enaike Onoriode, to death by hanging for the murder of Elozino Ogege, a 300-level Mass Communication student at Delta State University (DELSU). The court found them guilty of conspiracy to commit kidnapping, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder, and actual murder.

The third defendant, Nwosisi Benedict Uche, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence, while the fourth defendant, Robinson Obajero Ojokojo, a native doctor, died during the seven-year trial. The judgment, delivered by Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge on July 29, 2026, concluded a case that began in 2019 when Ogege was murdered after meeting a house agent.

The Delta State Government, represented by the Office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, charged the defendants with multiple offenses, including armed robbery and membership of an unlawful society. Solicitor-General Omamuzo Erebe described the verdict as a landmark judgment, expressing condolences to Ogege's family.
