UBEC and Sultan Foundation Partner to Boost Education Access
The Federal Government of Nigeria is intensifying efforts to tackle the issue of out-of-school children through investments in school infrastructure, teacher development, and grassroots partnerships as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) announced a strategic partnership with the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development to mobilize traditional and religious institutions to identify out-of-school children and facilitate their enrolment and attendance.
This partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing community participation in basic education, particularly in underserved areas. UBEC's Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, emphasized the government's commitment to education as a foundation for national development.
She noted that UBEC, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and State Universal Basic Education Boards, has constructed over 4,900 classrooms and provided essential facilities benefiting more than 2.3 million learners by the end of 2025. The partnership with the Sultan Foundation is expected to connect government policies with community actions to improve educational access.
