Underground Tank Explosion in Plateau Kills Two Welders

On April 17, 2026, an explosion occurred at an underground tank in a filling station located in Daffo, Bokko Local Government Area, Plateau State, leading to the immediate deaths of two welders and injuries to three other individuals. The incident was confirmed by Kefa Mallai, the chairman of the community peace observatory in the area.

The explosion happened while the victims, who were apprentices working on a leak in the tank, were conducting maintenance. It was reported that the tank was believed to be empty, leading the workers to underestimate the potential danger.

The explosion resulted in a fire that engulfed the area, killing the two artisans instantly. The injured individuals were promptly taken to a hospital for treatment.
