Uyo Indigenes Demand Zoning of Assembly Seat to Offot Ukwa

The Uyo Liber Movement (ULM) has called for the zoning of the Uyo State Assembly seat to the Offot Ukwa clan in preparation for the 2027 elections. This demand was articulated in a 13-point communiqué signed by Barr Udem Ekott, the president of ULM, and Elder Emmanuel Sam, the secretary-general, on May 17, 2026.

The group criticized attempts by certain individuals to disrupt existing zoning arrangements, which they believe are essential for fostering peace and democracy in the local government area since 1999. The communiqué stated that the Offot Ukwa clan should produce the next lawmaker to effectively represent the interests of the Uyo people, as the current representative has been deemed inadequate.

ULM strongly opposes any plans to reward non-performing representatives with a second term, arguing that it would hinder progress and unity within the community. They encourage qualified individuals from the Offot Ukwa clan to contest for the seat and express readiness to collaborate with all political parties to ensure fair representation.
