Vigilante Group of Nigeria Seeks Government Support

James Udoma, the Commandant-General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), urged the Federal Government to provide adequate equipment and operational tools for VGN members to minimize casualties during security operations. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Udoma expressed concern over the loss of VGN personnel deployed to frontline operations without sufficient equipment.

He noted that the VGN has trained its members in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and has profiled them for deployment. Udoma acknowledged the support from some northern state governors in equipping VGN members.

He expressed confidence in the VGN's ability to combat insurgency and criminality if adequately supported. Additionally, he announced the establishment of a committee to address factional issues within the organization and introduced a 2027 Election Security Support and Community Intelligence Framework aimed at enhancing grassroots intelligence gathering.

Udoma emphasized that VGN would complement statutory security agencies and pledged zero tolerance for indiscipline among its personnel.
