Police Delay Prosecution of APC Leaders for Threats

The Nigeria Police's inaction regarding Senator Francis Fadahunsi, Chairman of Kuje Area Council Samuel Shekwolo, and Borno State Commissioner Sainna Buba, who allegedly threatened violence against non-supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked concerns about political immunity. As the 2027 general election nears, the reluctance of the police to act against these individuals, particularly Fadahunsi, who directed APC members to retaliate violently against the rival Accord Party during a protest in Ilesa, is alarming.

Despite a video of his threats circulating online and calls for justice from Amnesty International, the Osun State Police Command merely invited him for questioning without any criminal proceedings. The invitation letter, signed by Commissioner Samuel Etaifo, acknowledged Fadahunsi's statements as potentially "threatening, inciting and intimidating." Fadahunsi later attempted to downplay his remarks on Channels Television, claiming he meant to encourage electoral defeat rather than physical attacks.

This inaction may embolden APC members to believe they are immune from prosecution for violent acts against non-members.
