Oshiomhole Leads Ogun Protests Against Obasanjo's Subsidy Move

Adams Oshiomhole, the Senator representing Edo North, revealed that his concerns over the management of proceeds from the removal of fuel subsidies prompted him to lead protests in Ogun State against former President Olusegun Obasanjo. This disclosure was made during the seventh national discourse organized by 'The Companion' at the University of Lagos, UNILAG.

Oshiomhole stated that he believed the Obasanjo administration lacked the capacity to fairly distribute the benefits of the subsidy removal. He recounted visiting Abeokuta, Ogun State's capital, where he collaborated with local leaders, including Afolabi Salisu, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security, to oppose the subsidy removal.

Oshiomhole emphasized that while Obasanjo could remove the subsidy, he lacked the systems necessary for equitable distribution. The protests garnered support from workers and students, although some university officials maintained a neutral stance publicly.
