Lagos: Nigeria's Most Complex Policing Environment

During an official visit to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, Deputy Inspector General of Police Adegoke Fayoad characterized Lagos as Nigeria's toughest state to police, citing its estimated population of 20 million and the strategic importance of the region. He stressed the necessity for an intelligence-driven policing approach to address the complex security challenges.

Fayoad acknowledged the ongoing issues such as armed robbery and cult-related violence but praised the Lagos State Police Command for its resilience and effective operations. He expressed confidence in the leadership of Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani, who reported significant declines in major crimes, including the arrest of 71 armed robbery suspects, 133 cultism suspects, and 35 murder suspects since assuming duty in March.

Fayoad also highlighted the importance of community engagement and collaboration with other security agencies, urging the command to enhance intelligence gathering and maintain public trust.
