Wike Cancels 485 Abuja Land Titles Over Verification Failures

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, approved the cancellation of 485 land documents in Abuja that did not meet the verification standards set by authorities. This decision follows an extensive review conducted by the Department of Land Administration in collaboration with the Abuja Geographic Information System.

The affected documents were deemed invalid after failing authenticity checks, with a public notice issued by the Federal Capital Territory Administration confirming the cancellation. The invalid applications span several area councils, including Bwari Area Council, affecting locations such as Ushafa Village and Dawaki.

This cancellation is part of broader land administration reforms initiated by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to tackle long-standing challenges, including forgery and double allocations. The reforms date back to last year when it was disclosed that 8,287,261,914 area council land documents submitted from 2006 to 2023 were screened, with only 3.2 percent passing verification, leaving 253,627 documents pending clearance.
