Wike Opposes Conversion of Wuye Hospital to Private Estate

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, condemned the conversion of Wuye's public hospital into a private estate, labeling it "wickedly wicked." He highlighted the implications of reallocating land designated for public health to private developers, specifically referencing plot 546 in Wuye district, which spans 3.171 hectares. This decision, he argues, undermines public trust and threatens essential healthcare access in a rapidly urbanizing area.

Wike's remarks come amid concerns over the deterioration of public health infrastructure in Abuja, where the population continues to grow without adequate healthcare facilities. He pointed out that the hospital's relocation to a private company contradicts urban planning principles and the need for public amenities.

The approval date for the private development was noted as March 5, 2026, raising questions about the pace of construction and the prioritization of public health in urban planning.
