IGP Disu: Police Uniforms Don't Justify Misconduct

During a keynote address in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, warned 1,068 retrained constables that their uniforms do not provide a license to kill. He emphasized the need for professionalism and accountability among officers, stating that any misuse of weapons resulting in unjustified killings would lead to dismissal and prosecution.

Disu highlighted that officers must adhere to the law and use firearms only as a last resort. He also addressed issues of extortion and reckless firearm use, stating that violators would face summary dismissal and criminal prosecution.

The IGP commended the Akwa Ibom command for its comprehensive retraining program, which includes a special cohort for a newly established violent crime response unit. He urged the public to continue partnering with the police by providing credible information to enhance community safety.
