INEC Sets October 9, 2026, for PVC Collection Start

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the 2027 elections will commence on October 9, 2026. This announcement was made following an assessment visit by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan and his team to Kaduna State.

The visit is part of INEC's broader readiness assessment for the 2027 General Election, which includes a six-zone national tour to evaluate the Commission's preparedness and identify operational challenges. During the North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting, Amupitan directed officials to address operational gaps and maintain neutrality to ensure the credibility of the elections.

He highlighted that the success of elections is determined at the grassroots level, particularly in Local Government Areas and polling units. Amupitan also reported that three phases of Continuous Voter Registration had resulted in 10,772,421 new registrations, pending verification.

He urged the elimination of PVC distribution bottlenecks and mentioned ongoing improvements to INEC's technological systems and logistics.
