Katsina Police Warn Against Political Violence Ahead of 2027

On Thursday, the Katsina State Police Command issued a warning to politicians and individuals sponsoring political violence in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Fage, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Aminu Gusau, stated that all sponsors and perpetrators would be identified, investigated, and arrested, regardless of political affiliation.

The warning was delivered during the commemoration of the 2026 International Youth Day, which focused on the theme “Same Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” CP Fage urged youths to reject financial inducements from political actors that could lead to violence, describing political thuggery as “structured self-sabotage.” He warned that those who recruit youths for violence abandon them after elections. Additionally, he raised concerns about the rise of digital thuggery, including cyber harassment and misinformation, urging young people to use social media responsibly.

The police command has initiated a campaign titled “My Future Is Greater Than Politics” to discourage electoral violence and exploitation.
