Atiku Abubakar Promises to Tackle Insecurity in 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has committed to resolving Nigeria's insecurity crisis within one year if elected in the 2027 general elections. In an interview with BBC Hausa, he outlined plans to recruit additional security personnel, equip them adequately, and provide necessary funding to enhance their operations.

He linked insecurity to unemployment, proposing support for young Nigerians to establish businesses and create jobs. Abubakar also expressed intentions to collaborate with leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to revive the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) for stronger military cooperation in the region.

He stressed the importance of maintaining Nigeria's bilateral relations with Niger Republic despite its military takeover and aimed to work towards reuniting Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali within ECOWAS. Additionally, he expressed skepticism about the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) ability to conduct a free and fair election in 2027.
