Masai Russell Breaks Tobi Amusan's 100m Hurdles Record

On Thursday, at the Zurich Diamond League, Masai Russell set a new world record in the women's 100m hurdles, completing the race in 12.09 seconds. This performance surpassed Tobi Amusan's previous world record of 12.12 seconds, which Amusan had held for four years.

Amusan finished the race in second place with a time of 12.23 seconds. Russell's achievement marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first woman to run faster than Amusan's record.

Prior to this, Russell had come close to breaking the record earlier in May at the Xiamen Diamond League, where she recorded a time of 12.14 seconds, making her the second-fastest woman in the event at that time. Amusan originally set her world record during the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA, where she later won the final in 12.06 seconds, although that time did not count as a world record due to excessive tailwind.
