Infantino Defies CONCACAF Head at Youth Football Event

FIFA President Gianni Infantino attended the CONCACAF Caribbean Union Youth football tournament in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on Saturday, despite a plea from CONCACAF’s acting head, Victor Montagliani, to refrain from attending. Montagliani warned that the ongoing FIFA governance crisis could overshadow the event celebrating young football talent.

This request followed Infantino's controversial decision to backtrack on plans to sell future World Cup revenues to private investors after facing backlash from players, federations, and fans. Montagliani, alongside UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, has criticized Infantino for his management of FIFA and the lack of transparency regarding the proposed sale.

Infantino has not addressed questions regarding his leadership since the sale plan was abandoned. He is seeking a record-equalling fourth full presidential term in the upcoming election scheduled for March 21 next year in Rabat, with the candidate submission deadline set for November 18.
