INEC Sets October 9 for PVC Collection Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence on October 9, 2026, as part of its preparations for the 2027 elections. This announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), during a North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with staff on September 28, 2026.

Amupitan highlighted that three phases of Continuous Voter Registration have resulted in 10,772,421 new registrations, pending verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System. He urged state and local government officials to eliminate obstacles preventing eligible citizens from collecting their PVCs, warning that logistical failures could lead to disenfranchisement.

Additionally, he mentioned that INEC is enhancing its voter verification and result transmission systems. Mallam Kudu Haruna, Supervising National Commissioner, noted that the zonal meetings aim to engage INEC staff despite the tight schedule leading up to the elections.
