NPC Chairman Dr. Aminu Yusuf Dies in Abuja at 65

Dr. Aminu Yusuf, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), passed away on August 28, 2025, in Abuja at Nizamiya Hospital following the Jummah prayer. He had been ill for five days before his death while preparing for a trip to Rwanda and had been managing diabetes-related complications.

Yusuf had previously collapsed multiple times, including during a press briefing on March 13, 2025, where he experienced difficulty breathing. His remains were transported to Minna for burial on the evening of his death.

Dr. Yusuf was appointed as NPC chairman by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2025, with Senate confirmation following. He was officially sworn in on December 3, 2025, at the age of 65.

Yusuf held a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master's degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Zaria, as well as a doctorate in International Relations from Nasarawa State University, Keffi. As of the report, the NPC had not released an official statement regarding his death.
