Offiong Edem Foundation Launches 6th Table Tennis Tournament

The Offiong Edem Foundation has unveiled plans for the 6th edition of its annual Table Tennis Tournament, set to take place in Calabar, Cross River State. The tournament will feature an expanded format with four categories: Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, and Youth Open, and a total prize money of N3 million, increased by 15 percent from the previous year.

Offiong Edem, a five-time Olympian and current coach based in the United States, stated that the additional category was introduced due to a large turnout of young players. During the announcement, Edem distributed rackets and other equipment to over 50 young athletes, adults, and coaches to support those lacking access to quality resources.

She emphasized her commitment to nurturing young talents, recalling her own struggles with equipment costs as a player in Nigeria. Edem plans to personally sponsor three outstanding players to national tournaments twice a year for greater exposure.
