Gaise Baba Advocates for Gospel Music Recognition at The Headies

Afrogospel artiste Gaise Baba has called on The Headies to provide greater recognition for gospel music within mainstream award categories. In an open letter to The Headies Organising Committee dated Friday, he criticized the absence of the Inspirational Music award at the recent ceremony.

Gaise Baba, who has been active in the Nigerian music industry since 2012 when he was signed to Sanctified Records, stated that his letter is a constructive contribution from within the industry. He argued that faith-based music should not be confined to isolated categories but should be assessed based on artistic merit.

He used rap music as an example, asserting that songs with gospel content should be eligible for mainstream categories. While he acknowledged the introduction of the Inspirational Music category in 2022 as a positive step, his personal experience as a nominee for "Particularly," featuring Tope Alabi, prompted him to advocate for further changes in how faith-based music is categorized.
