EFCC Probes N12bn Fund Amid NFF President's Resignation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed that its investigation into the utilization of the N12bn Federal Government intervention fund released to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is ongoing. EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale stated that inquiries into the matter are active.

This investigation follows reports that both the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission have begun probing the fund, which was approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to settle outstanding wages and bonuses owed to players of Nigeria’s national teams. A source indicated that some officials linked to the fund have been invited for questioning.

Concurrently, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau announced his resignation after three years and 11 months in office, citing consultations with family and friends. He encouraged board members to resign if they wished but could not confirm identities or numbers of those resigning.

Gusau's resignation is linked to Nigeria's poor performance in international football, including failures to qualify for recent World Cups.
