Oluwo Appeals to Tinubu for Kanu's Presidential Pardon

Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, advocating for a presidential pardon for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra. In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Ibrahim Alli, the Oluwo emphasized that granting Kanu amnesty would facilitate the full integration of the Igbo tribe into national discourse.

He commended Tinubu for his inclusive governance approach and suggested that a pardon would reinforce his status as a detribalized leader. The Oluwo acknowledged the lingering frustrations among the Igbo community stemming from the post-civil war era and expressed hope that Kanu's release would contribute to healing these historical wounds.

He clarified that the pardon should honor the Igbo tribe rather than Kanu as an individual. The Oluwo also noted that Kanu should be cautioned and counselled before his release, expressing optimism that he could become a positive influence among his people.
