Lekki Port Enhances Truck Controls to Reduce Congestion

The Nigerian Ports Authority and stakeholders along the Lekki Port corridor are enhancing coordination of truck movements to alleviate congestion affecting the port and surrounding facilities. Lekki Port Manager Emmanuel Anda convened a stakeholders’ meeting, acknowledging the need for coordinated management due to high traffic volume.
Immediate measures include directing trucks to utilize a single lane for better access for other road users, in line with directives from the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State. Trucks will be released strictly through an electronic call-up system based on terminal capacity.
Ajay Harlal Tyagi, Chief Operating Officer of Lekki Free Port Terminal, announced a one-container, one-booking system to prevent duplicate bookings. Timi Koleolu, Managing Director of Call-Up Technology, noted that the agreed standard operating procedure was not fully implemented.
Idris Seidu from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation mentioned that agreements with transport unions regarding designated parks were not being observed, and the ministry is working on an enforcement plan to ensure orderly truck movement.
