Youth Festival in Abuja Promotes Voter Registration

The Movement for the Transformation of Nigeria (MOTION), in partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and ActionAid Nigeria, organized the 'Turn Up for Democracy Festival' on Saturday in Abuja to encourage voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections. The event featured an INEC voter Services Desk, allowing eligible citizens to register and access electoral services.

Dr. Andrew Mamedu, Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, expressed concerns over low voter turnout, particularly among youth, with only 23-24% participation in the last general election and below 20% in the FCT.

The initiative aims to assist eligible citizens with voter registration and provide information on PVC collection. Comrade Christopher Isiguzo, co-convener of MOTION, emphasized the importance of voter registration as a foundation for democratic participation.

Abimbola Oladunjoye, Administrative Secretary of INEC FCT, noted the program's focus on attracting young voters and facilitating new registrations, transfers, or replacements of lost PVCs.
