Tinubu and Leaders Honor Ayo Opadokun at 80

On Wednesday, prominent figures including President Bola Tinubu, former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, and Chief Olusegun Osoba honored Pa Ayo Opadokun as he celebrated his 80th birthday. The event took place at Ikate Baptist Church in Surulere, Lagos, with Rev Olusegun Ogungboye reading congratulatory messages from Tinubu and Abubakar.

Tinubu praised Opadokun for his life of sacrifice, courage, and patriotism in the fight for democracy in Nigeria, highlighting his unwavering commitment to good governance and the rule of law. He recalled their shared sacrifices during the June 12 struggle, which contributed to the establishment of the Fourth Republic.

Abubakar reflected on Opadokun's dedication to Nigeria and his defense of democratic ideals. Opadokun was recognized as a leading voice in NADECO and Afenifere, enduring persecution during the Abacha regime for his activism.
