Two Dead as Refuse Dump Collapses in Calabar

On August 28, 2026, a refuse dump collapsed in Ikot Effanga, along Old Odukpani Road in Calabar, Cross River State, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The Cross River State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, reported that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the refuse impacted a building that was reportedly constructed within a valley.

The victims were identified as Nfon Imé, a male, and an unidentified female, both of whom were in the building at the time of the collapse. Their bodies were recovered and taken to the mortuary.

The police have initiated an assessment of the incident's circumstances and are conducting further investigations.
