Akwa Ibom State Aims for Open Defecation Free Status by 2030

In the water and sanitation sector, Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon. Ubuo Ubuo, noted improvements in access to drinking water (from 34.8% to 78.5%) and sanitation (from 29.3% to 71.2%). Plans include the rollout of solar-powered water schemes across all 369 wards, with site identification and technical preparations completed.
The government has approved the State WASH Policy and a roadmap for achieving ODF status, alongside various completed water projects aimed at improving water quality and reducing waterborne diseases.
