Wike Named in Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, has been named in court documents related to an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu. The allegations surfaced during the trial of retired naval captain Erasmus Victor at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Victor acknowledged discussions about the coup but stated he advised Army Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, the alleged mastermind, to abandon the plan. Victor revealed that Ma’aji, frustrated over a lack of promotion in 2023, sought financial backers for the coup, mentioning Wike's name due to their past relationship when Victor served as chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area during Wike's governorship.

Despite this, Victor clarified he never approached Wike for funds and that investigation records do not indicate Wike's awareness or involvement in the alleged plot. Security agencies began investigations after the conspiracy was uncovered in September 2025.
