Kano Governor Yusuf Calls for Northern Candidates to Defer 2027 Bids Until 2031

At the Kano State Government House on Sunday, Governor Abba Yusuf delivered remarks calling on northern political aspirants with presidential ambitions to postpone their candidacies until 2031. He contended that Nigeria's presidency should alternate between northern and southern regions according to a structured rotation model.

The occasion marked the unveiling of 50 vehicles—donated by Chief Oweizide Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo—to strengthen All Progressives Congress campaign efforts ahead of 2027 elections in the state. The governor's argument rests on the premise that each region warrants the opportunity to produce a chief executive across two consecutive terms.

Yusuf stressed that supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election in 2027 would permit the southern zone to complete its allotted tenure. Through a statement from his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor framed this arrangement as reflective of fairness and national unity.
