TSA Rejects Valid Tennessee Real IDs at Airports

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is currently rejecting certain valid Real IDs from Tennessee at airport security checkpoints. This issue was confirmed by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security in a Facebook post on August 11.

The department is offering free replacements to travelers affected by this problem. The agency is investigating the cause of the rejection, stating, “We are reviewing the affected licenses to determine the cause and correct the issue.” A TSA spokesperson indicated that when a Tennessee driver’s license fails to scan, officers work quickly to verify the passenger's identity.

Many Tennesseans have reported issues with their IDs, with some suggesting that the problem may be due to black-and-white portraits that are too light. Affected individuals can visit a Driver Services Center to obtain a replacement license at no cost, although it may take 10 to 20 days to receive the new card.
