NAFDAC Dismantles ₦2bn Counterfeit Alcohol Ring in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has successfully dismantled an alleged counterfeit alcohol syndicate operating from the International Trade Fair Complex in Lagos. During an enforcement operation on Tuesday, NAFDAC uncovered over 20 illegal stores where expired and unsafe beverages were being revalidated and repackaged for sale.
The agency seized counterfeit, banned, and other suspected unwholesome products valued at more than ₦2 billion. Two suspects were arrested during the operation, which followed credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities in the commercial complex.
Investigators found a large-scale operation concealed within makeshift parking stores, where blending and counterfeiting of popular alcoholic beverage brands were taking place. NAFDAC reported that some suspects were caught in the act, and the operation is part of the agency's ongoing efforts to disrupt the production and distribution of counterfeit beverages across Nigeria.
